Ma'at
Ancient Egypt — Truth, Justice, Balance
Ma'at is one of the oldest moral concepts on earth — both a goddess and a principle in ancient Egyptian thought. She represents truth, justice, balance, harmony, and the cosmic order. The pharaoh's first duty was to uphold ma'at; in the afterlife, the heart was weighed against her feather. As a modern concept she gives us a complete vocabulary for ethical leadership: the leader's job is not to win but to keep things in right relation.
